"Scammers are trying to rip off young adults. And those 18-29 year olds are falling for scams at record levels," said Yael Grauer, Consumer Reports.
Why are scammers targeting Gen-Z with text scams?
#1 They text a lot. It's the primary form of communication for Gen-Z.
#2 They have instant access to money on their phones. Gen-Z uses Payment Apps like CashApp, Venmo, and Zelle, which usually don't offer the same kind of protections that a check or a credit card does.
