Workers at two unionized Starbucks locations in the Twin Cities walked off the job Thursday afternoon, joining a national strike alleging unfair labor practices that is indefinitely shuttering more than 65 stores across 40 cities.
Nationally, members of Starbucks Workers United are demanding higher wages, more work hours, an end to what they say is understaffing and the resolution of alleged retaliatory firings and discipline for union actions. The national union had been engaged in contract negotiations with Starbucks management that broke down in April.
In the Twin Cities, the strike included workers a St. Anthony Starbucks at 3704 Silverlake Road, which unionized in 2022, as well as one in Chanhassen at 190 Lake Drive, which unionized a year ago. Both stores remained closed as of Frid
