A Sunbury woman who delivered a baby last month under a surrogacy agreement has found herself ensnared in a potential nationwide scam by a California couple.

Alexa Fasold, who is 26 and married with her own children, had the baby boy on Oct. 15 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, according to AlliedNews.com . The baby was placed in a foster home in Montour County.

Fasold’s expectations that she was helping an infertile couple were crushed when she learned in May that the owners of the California company she was dealing with, Mark Surrogacy, were under investigation and accused of child endangerment and neglect.

Authorities said owners Silvia Zhang, 38, and Guojun Xuan, 65, had custody of 21 children between 2 and 13, NBC News reported in July .
