Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who committed suicide while facing sex trafficking charges, lays out in detail the sex acts he paid for, according to recently released emails.
In a 5 a.m. typo-laden email in 2019 to a journalist, Epstrein wrote, "the girls retunred the house multiplie times. for 200 dollars for a rub and tug. . no sex . . . some worked in the locak massage parlors, most in thier mid twenties."
The exact date of the email, Feb. 1, 2019, was when the registered sex offender was aware federal authorities were after him but months ahead of his arrest. The email is among a trove of documents related to the case Congress has released in recent days.
Epstein’s emails and what they might reveal about who was involved in potential sex crimes have been at the heart of a major fight in Washington, D.C. Democrats are calling for the files, which name President Donald Trump, to be released. Notable Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, have also called for their release. The White House has called the release of emails a "smear" and on social media, Trump refers to the fracas as the "Epstein hoax."
Epstein had served 13 months in jail after pleading guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution. He was indicted on federal sex trafficking charges in July 2019, which carried a maximum penalty of 45 years in prison. He died by suicide a month later in jail, awaiting trial.
Epstein mentioned Trump repeatedly in emails, saying he "spent hours at my house" and "knew about the girls." Trump had attended Epstein's parties and flown on his plane during the 1990s but later ousted Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club for recruiting his female workers.
The early 2019 email contains specific references to Trump.
"Trump knew of it," Epstein says, "and came to my house many times during that period."
As more details from the emails are uncovered, Trump has called for the Department of Justice to investigate whether or not prominent Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, were involved with Epstein.
"This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats," the president wrote on his platform Truth Social. "Records show that these men, and many others spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his 'Island.' Stay tuned!!!"
