EVERETT — Marysville police made 80 traffic stops in six hours Monday during a targeted traffic enforcement emphasis on State Avenue in honor of a teenager who died as a passenger in a speeding vehicle.

Since State Avenue became a five-lane configuration, there has been an increase in crashes in the area, prompting targeted enforcement, a Marysville Police Department social media post said. The operation focused on high-priority violations, including speeding and seatbelt usage, along State Avenue between 100th Street Northeast and 116th Street Northeast.

Officers conducted the operation in honor of Noah Martinez, the stepson of Marysville Police Officer Sam Gay, who died on Sept. 1, the post said. Martinez would have turned 16 this month. According to the post, “this operation served
