Tennessee’s Speakers of the House and Senate oppose President Trump’s recent pardons of former House Speaker Glen Casada and his former chief of staff Cade Cothren on political corruption convictions.

Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, who serves as Senate speaker, said he feels the pardons were not correct. The Tennessee Lookout says House speaker Cameron Sexton agrees.

Sexton said the FBI started investigating the pair during Trump’s first administration, and the Justice Department tried them during Trump’s second term.

Sexton told WBIR in Knoxville that a Trump judge presided over the case in Nashville.

Casada was sentenced to 36 months in prison and a $30,000 fine for his role in a fraud and kickback scheme. Cothren was sentenced to 30 months and a $25,000 fine.
