NEW ORLEANS — A woman accused of allegedly working as an unlicensed nurse at multiple facilities, including the Orleans Parish Jail, is now behind bars herself.

Officials arrested 32-year-old Shakeenya Cooper, who investigators say dispensed hundreds of doses of drugs while employed by Wexford Health, the company contracted to provide healthcare to inmates at the Orleans Justice Center.

According to court records, Cooper worked inside the jail from August 31 to October 17.

Cooper is also charged with posing as a nurse at the Lafon Nursing Facility in New Orleans East, where she allegedly dispensed medication and cared for residents. A worker at the nursing home reported her to the Board of Nursing in March, but court records say she later secured the job with Wexford using fake credenti
