More than a year ago, when new leadership took over at the Chronicle, including the newsroom, we vowed we would be a voice for all of Bozeman, the Gallatin Valley and, indeed, Montana.

Our message, from a forthcoming mission statement: “We don’t take sides. We pursue the truth. We hold power accountable. And we listen to the voices that make this city, county and state what it is. Because Montanans deserve more than headlines, they deserve context, clarity, and a newsroom that stands with them, not above them.”

We weren’t going to be Blue. And we weren’t going to be Red.

In short, if you perceived a political or culture-war imbalance on our robust daily Opinion page, it wouldn’t be because of us — it would be because of you .
