Taylor Wildeman didn’t even think he’d crack the University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ hockey roster.

He was a junior A grad trying out for a squad loaded with major junior players, on the shorter side at five feet eight inches tall.

“I was up against WHL players and I was one of the shortest ones on the team and, at that time, it was rough and tough (hockey). It felt like that was a big challenge to make the team,” Wildeman recalled.

Despite it all, he was this year’s Award of Recognition recipient at the Off the Leash luncheon, an annual fundraiser for the Huskies men’s hockey program.

The award recognizes people who continue to contribute to the program.

For Wildeman, being able to play at the U Sports level, for a perennial contender, proved to be a springboard for future success.
