Don Korb will no longer be considered for a top post in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), after President Donald Trump pulled his nomination.
That's according to a Friday article in Politico, which reported that Korb — who was tapped to be the next Assistant General Counsel of the IRS — had his appointment withdrawn by the White House. Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform (along with his signature eight-word catchphrase) but gave no reason for the decision.
MAGA social media personality Laura Loomer — who has been dubbed as Trump's unofficial "loyalty enforcer" — claimed credit for Korb's ouster, writing: "SCALP" and praising Trump for his "great decision." She also added her own catchphrase "#LOOMERED" in a subsequent post about Korb's nomination being withdrawn.
Earlier this week, Loomer wrote a lengthy post on her X account calling Korb's nomination "a Betrayal of MAGA Promises And A Path To Continued Political Violence In America." She noted that Korb had "several red flags" that she viewed as disqualifying, including "praising Chuck Schumer," "donating to Democrats," having the support of Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and "mistreating IRS whistleblowers." (An AlterNet search of Federal Election Commission donations from every election cycle dating back to 2016 yielded no results for "Don Korb" or "Donald Korb.")
Loomer argued that Korb's nomination contradicted with Trump's September executive order on "Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence," which instructs the IRS to investigate nonprofits accused of "directly or indirectly financing political violence or domestic terrorism." She also pointed to a quote from former Tax Policy Center director Mark Mazur who referred to Korb as a "by-the-book guy" while Trump was not.
"Shockingly, Korb once referred to rabid Trump hater Chuck Schumer as 'the guy who can get things done,'" Looomer tweeted.
Politico further reported that Korb, who was IRS chief counsel under former President George W. Bush, had been attacked by Democrats as well for backing the data-sharing agreement between the IRS and the Trump administration that the Department of Homeland Security has relied on to carry out mass deportations.
Korb is merely the latest nominee to not get a confirmation vote in the full Senate. Bloomberg reported this week that more than 50 of Trump's appointees have had their nominations withdrawn due to pushback from Senate Republicans.
