BRANDENBURG, Ky. — This is the first full year of a state law that bans cell phone usage during school instructional time.
The state law also required each school board to create their own policy.
Jefferon County Public Schools (JCPS) elected to enforce the ban for the entire day. In early September, the district pointed to a positive impact being seen at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, which had seen a surge of library books being checked out.
The Meade County Schools District did have cell phone rules, but leaders say enforcement could differ depending on the classroom.
Now that the law is in place, the high school's principal said the school is seeing an improvement in academic achievement.
"So we have 92 percent of all students passing all classes for the first nine weeks.
