The former forward for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team won the Award of Recognition at Thursday's event.

He was a junior A grad trying out for a squad loaded with major junior players, on the shorter side at five feet eight inches tall. Article content Article content

“I was up against WHL players and I was one of the shortest ones on the team and, at that time, it was rough and tough (hockey). It felt like that was a big challenge to make the team,” Wildeman recalled.

Despite it all, he was this year’s Award of Recognition recipient at the Off the Leash luncheon, an annual fundraiser for the Huskies men’s hockey program.
