A mother of six from Rhode Island who's been a green card holder since she was a child has been detained at Boston's Logan airport for more than a week over a decade-old warrant, according to her family and lawyer.

Eva Mendes, 48, was detained upon returning to the United States on Nov. 5 from the island nation of Cabo Verde, for her brother's funeral, and was told she would be held overnight as customs agents looked into a warrant for a 2012 shoplifting charge, according to a court filing requesting that she have a hearing over her custody status. Her lawyer said he hasn't been able to speak with her since she's been held.
