The most recent findings from a Veterans’ Administration report estimate that an average of 18 veterans a day died by suicide in 2022. Now, one group of researchers are harnessing new technology in search of a futuristic solution. Mental Health Correspondent Dr. Nicole Clark has that story.

It may look like a video game, but this virtual reality simulation is designed to save lives.

“Our aim is to use virtual reality to help prevent veteran suicide,” said Donna Schuman, a professor at the University of Texas at Arlington School of Social Work.

Schuman leads the research team that’s been working on the project. Their goal is to train as many people as possible to recognize the warning signs of suicide and intervene to prevent it.
