Police are reportedly investigating a possible hit-and-run accident that caused a transformer fire on a utility pole at East 12th Street and Morton Avenue, leaving hundreds of PECO customers without power.
The call came in shortly after 11:30 a.m. for a tractor-trailer that hit a pole at Morton Avenue and Johnson Street, causing downed wires that caught fire, but Battalion Chief Jon Ley said that was inaccurate.
“The tractor-trailer did not hit the telephone pole and that (truck) was not on fire,” he said. “The pole itself on 12th and Morton, that was on fire, and that affected Morton and Johnson.”
