COLUMBUS, Ohio — Some parents of students in Columbus City Schools are worried about the impact of potential staff cuts.

Columbus City Schools Superintendent Dr. Angela Chapman presented her proposal Thursday that would eliminate 445 positions to cut $41 million from the district's budget.

Charles Ferguson, a graduate of East High School, said the district helped shape him into the person he is today. Now, his son is a sixth grader at Berwick Alternative Elementary School, a place Ferguson describes as a strong community.

“Berwick is his house. Everyone knows him. Every teacher knows him. They know what he's about. We know almost every student,” Ferguson said.
