The Montreal Canadiens have a lot to overcome following a devastating injury suffered by St. John’s forward Alex Newhook Thursday night.

The 24-year-old fractured his ankle in the Habs’ loss to Dallas and the club announced Friday that he has undergone surgery.

He’s expected to be out for at least four months.

Defenceman Kaiden Guhle also underwent surgery this week.

Newhook had recorded 12 points (6 goals and 6 assists) in 17 contests so far this season.

The Canadiens have called up forward Jared Davidson from the AHL’s Laval Rocket to replace him.
