Former Laney College football coach John Beam, who was featured on the Netflix program “Last Chance U,” has died after being shot on Thursday, according to the Associated Press . He was 66 years.

Beam was shot in the head on Thursday at the Laney Fieldhouse, according to reports. A suspect has since been arrested.

Beam retired from coaching after the 2024 season but was still serving as the Athletics Director at Laney.

Laney College is located in Oakland, Calif. A vigil was being held outside of the hospital Beam was at before he died, according to the AP.
