TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Tucson’s new Safe City Task Force held its first meeting Friday. Two focuses of the more than twenty-person group put forth by Tucson Mayor Regina Romero are homelessness and the ongoing fentanyl crisis.

Romero acknowledged the current gaps in local services. She told task force members Friday that the city has struggled to provide solutions to help the chronically homeless, individuals battling mental health and/or substance abuse disorders and those who refuse help.

"That’s where you all come in," Romero said to the task force members.

Individuals on the advisory group include local government employees, those from the business sector and outreach organizations.
