WELLINGTON — You would have thought this was a payback game.

No. 2 Wellington dominated No. 7 Resurrection Christian in a rematch of a regular-season thriller, blasting the Cougars 42-12 in the Colorado Class 2A high school football quarterfinals.

This wasn't supposed to be so straightforward.

The Eagles had to hold off Resurrection Christian 21-16 less than a month ago, Wellington's only significant challenge en route to a 9-0 regular season and conference clown.

Instead, the home team poured it on in this one, leading 21-6 by halftime and dominating the final two quarters.

Wellington could host a 2A semifinal for the second straight season after a special run to the 2A title game last season.
