ST. CLAIR SHORES – A little patience was a big key for Birmingham Groves.
Jeremiah Whitley rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns during an explosive third quarter that sparked the Falcons to a 37-14 victory over St. Clair Shores Lakeview in a Division 2 regional championship football game Friday night.
Groves possessed the ball for only 2 minutes, 13 seconds in the 24-minute first half as Lakeview’s ball-control offense held sway, but the Falcons, who received the kickoff to start the third quarter, unleashed their offense behind running backs Whitley and Carter Anderson and the timely passing of quarterback LeVelle Shannon to advance to the Final Four for the second consecutive year.
“We knew coming in that they would hold the ball for a long time and run the clock down,” Whitley said
