Jammu, Nov 15: A man accused in a drug-related case in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district has been granted bail on the condition that he wear a GPS tracking anklet, officials said on Saturday.
The accused, Mukhtar Ahmed of Karmara in Poonch, was released on bail following an order by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur. Officials said the device was attached on Friday to enable real-time monitoring of his movements as mandated by the court.
Police said Udhampur has become the first district in the Jammu division to use GPS anklets for surveillance of narcotics offenders.
Ahmed was earlier booked under multiple sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 111 (organized crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). (Agencies)
