Two people from Assam were arrested in Manipur’s Senapati district after more than 18 kg of opium was found with them on Saturday, police said.
According to a senior officer, state police and CRPF teams stopped a truck at the Maram Police Station checkpoint on Friday, and found the drugs with the two people in the vehicle, PTI reported.
Our teams found 18.2 kg of opium hidden in the truck. Two people from Kamrup district in Assam were arrested, he said.
The drugs were seized in the presence of a magistrate and independent witnesses, and a case has been registered at the police station.
The officer added that the state police are committed to zero tolerance for drug trafficking and are working hard to keep the district safe and drug-free.
