The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended former Union minister R.K. Singh and two other leaders for alleged anti-party activities, just a day after the party's significant win in the Bihar assembly elections. The BJP emerged as the single largest party, securing 89 seats in the polls held in November 2025.
Alongside Singh, the party also suspended Ashok Agarwal, a member of the Legislative Council, and Usha Agarwal, the mayor of Katihar. The suspensions were announced in letters stating that their actions were detrimental to the party's interests and violated party discipline. Both Singh and Agarwal have been given a week to respond to the show-cause notice explaining why they should not be expelled from the party.
Singh, a former MP from Arrah, has been vocal in his criticism of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar. He has made allegations against party leaders and has been accused of making statements that undermine the party's unity. Notably, he had previously urged voters on social media to avoid candidates with criminal backgrounds, which included members of the NDA.
The suspension comes after Singh's recent claims regarding a corruption scandal involving a power project worth Rs 62,000 crore, further straining his relationship with the party leadership. Singh, who joined the BJP in 2013 after a career in the civil service, has faced challenges since losing his Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 elections. The BJP's swift action against him is seen as an effort to reinforce internal discipline following their electoral success in Bihar.
