RANCHO CUCAMONGA — Whether you were at Rancho Cucamonga High in person or watching on television, you knew it was pouring rain throughout Friday night’s CIF-Southern Section Division 2 football quarterfinal.
The statistics, however, seemed to tell another story, like maybe it was only raining when Rancho Cucamonga had the ball.
Top-seeded Murrieta Valley didn’t turn the ball over once while Rancho Cucamonga lost four fumbles and Murrieta Valley won, 26-6.
It marked the third straight year the teams played in the regular season and again in the playoffs, with Murrieta Valley winning the last five of those six matchups. The Nighthawks (9-3) advance to host Los Alamitos in a semifinal next Friday.
“We anticipated rain. We emphasized ball security,” Murrieta Valley coach George Wilson said
