At the start of this week, something happened that caused huge headlines and waves in the US for American women and those who love them, but merited barely a peep on this side of the pond.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decided to remove a “black box” health warning – the most severe used on medication in the US – on almost all hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products. It had cautioned patients that its use could cause cancer and strokes, but FDA commissioner Marty Makary said the advice, which had first appeared in 2003, was based on an overblown interpretation of a decades-old study.
