Gui Junmin, a 57-year-old sports industry professional, has found himself at the centre of a moral debate in China after entering a new romantic relationship, despite his wife, Zhan Wenlian, being cryogenically preserved.

In 2017, Zhan, 48, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Facing the prospect of losing her, Gui opted to have her frozen, hoping that advances in medical science might one day allow her revival.
