HMRC is urging workers to look out for letter worth ‘£473’ on average. Self-employed and fully employed workers could receive a letter from HMRC telling them they're eligible for a tax refund.
Workers are traditionally owed money back on the tax paid each year if it's been found that they paid more than supposed to.
This can be due to a wide variety of reasons, such as being on the incorrect tax code which dictates how much you pay to HMRC from your wages via the PAYE system.

Workers who are due an overpayment from the 2021/22 tax year have until April 5, 2026 to make a claim while a 2024/25 overpayment can be claimed up until April 5, 2029.
