The Fairness and Safety in Sport Act imposes sweeping, ideologically driven controls over Alberta’s post-secondary institutions, singling out a single, vulnerable population with new barriers that threaten to disrupt lives, and overturn privacy laws and human rights legislation far beyond provincial borders.
It began quietly this summer when Alberta’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport ordered all universities and colleges to adopt a policy that would require any young woman who wants to play on a varsity or intramural team to prove she was “biologically female” at birth.
