WASHINGTON —
The Trump administration is scaling down flight restrictions at 40 airports across the country, reducing required cancellations from 6% to 3% after the government shutdown ended earlier this week.
The tracking website FlightAware was reporting more than 400 cancellations as of 6 a.m. Saturday, when the changes took effect. That's well below the nearly 3,000 reported last Sunday.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the easing of restrictions reflects improvements in air traffic controller staffing levels, as workers have started to receive back pay following the shutdown.
"The 3 percent reduction will remain in place while the FAA monitors system performance throughout the weekend and evaluates whether normal operations can resume," the FAA wrote in a statement on Fri
