LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky hemp farmers and industry advocates are challenging Sen. Mitch McConnell over federal legislation they say could destroy the state’s $330 million hemp industry.
President Trump signed the Agriculture Appropriations Bill on Wednesday, which included language regarding hemp products. The language was added by McConnell and prohibits the sale of THC higher than 0.4 milligrams per container.
Abraham Phillips, a 23-year-old fifth-generation Kentucky farmer, said the restrictions threaten his livelihood.
“We just finished harvesting and now we are going to put the cover crop back on and getting ready to strip our crop. But now it’s like, there might not be any point,” Phillips said. “With this ban, with what’s happened, if we lose our consumers in our market,
