RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man was killed in a car crash on I-440 near Capital Boulevard, Raleigh police said.
It happened shortly before 7 a.m. Officers responded to eastbound I-440 at the Atlantic Avenue bridge and found a Toyota Rav4 against the median barrier wall. The driver, Bernard Wanjohi Kamara, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene.
RPD said it appeared that the left front tire of a 2013 Volkswagen Passat came off when the car was crossing over the Atlantic Avenue bridge where the road curves to the left. The tire then rolled across the median onto the eastbound lanes and struck the Toyota, causing it to lose control and crash.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Tyree McKinnie, 28, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.
