RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- We've reached 80 degrees so far afternoon, continuing the welcome relief from the heat of July at about 10 degrees below the historical average. In contrast to the previous few days (of which Thursday, in addition to dumping rain, came in 20 degrees below historical average at RDU), things will be getting warmer and warmer through the weekend and into the start of next week.
Those in eastern portions of the viewing area are more likely to see a thunderstorm or two today, but nothing prolonged or too intense. The general overview for the East will be heat building to our north and west as the strong ridge continues to trek east. Rain from some tropical stirrings will be impacting the Georgia and South Carolina coast, but the surface high will keep things suppressed
