HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Amid concerns about the government shutdown and looming concerns about SNAP recipients getting their full benefits from November, local governments are working to make sure people can get access to food in the meantime.
On Thursday night, Orange County commissioners voted unanimously to approve an emergency budget addition of $54,000 from their social justice fund to help community organizations provide food.
"The reason we're doing this is because the federal government has really threatened those benefits that are offered to low-income residents," said County Manager Travis Myren before the vote.
