A Virginia woman has learned her fate for the role she played in the brutal beating death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Amanda Brittani Mitchell, 35, previously pleaded guilty to counts of child abuse , child cruelty, and drug possession.

On Friday, she was sentenced to 45 years in prison by 27th Circuit Judge Joey Showalter – with a substantial caveat.

Of that sentence, 44 years and nine months were suspended by the court. In sum, Mitchell will spend 90 days behind bars for the death of her daughter, Harper Mitchell. The little girl was beaten to death by her mother's then-boyfriend, Andrew Byrd, 39, who was watching her – and likely using methamphetamine – while Mitchell was at work.
