If you thought Westchester was the most expensive place to live in New York state, think again.

A new study has listed the Empire State suburbs with the highest cost of living for essentials — and 15 of the top 20 are on Long Island.

GOBankingRates determined the priciest places by analyzing the monthly cost of essentials: mortgage payments, groceries, utilities, healthcare, and transportation.

The company compiled data from sources including the US Census American Community Survey, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the 2023 Consumer Expenditure Survey to reach their findings.

Sands Point, the tiny, tony waterfront village on Long Island, was determined to be the most expensive town to live in in New York state.
