STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- No. 5-seeded Kellenberg did the unthinkable by knocking off three higher-seeded opponents in the playoffs, including third-seeded St. Joseph by-the-Sea, 21-14, in Saturday’s CHSFL AA championship game in Huguenot.
Even more impressive was the fact that Kellenberg, which beat No. 4 Xavier in the quarters and No. 1 Xaverian in the semis, turned a 40-12 regular-season loss to the Vikings upside down in winning Saturday.
The loss left the Vikings with a 4-2 final league mark (6-6 overall). Kellenberg finished 4-2 in the league and 8-4 overall.
