Sam Houston coach Phil Longo is a practitioner of the Air Raid offense popularized by Hal Mumme and Mike Leach.

Delaware ’s spread offense orchestrated by coach Ryan Carty may not bear that name, but it also aims to invade foes via the pass.

The two attacks have similarities and differences, Carty said, including his probably putting greater emphasis on running the football and using tight ends.

“The things that we believe in,” Carty said, “are doing whatever it takes to get the ball down the field, making sure we have a good run game with a complimentary pass game and understanding that tempo does matter, but also getting in the right play call matters.
