President Donald Trump and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene intensified their feud over the weekend, focusing on various issues, including the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. The conflict escalated when Trump announced he would withdraw his support for Greene and consider backing a primary challenger against her.
In a social media post on Saturday, Trump criticized Greene, referring to her as a "lightweight" and claiming she had betrayed the Republican Party by shifting her stance. He wrote, "Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown (Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT!), betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left."
Greene responded on X, stating that she had received death threats and expressed shock at Trump's aggressive stance. "As a Republican, who overwhelmingly votes for President Trump‘s bills and agenda, his aggression against me... is completely shocking to everyone," she said.
The feud began earlier in the week when Greene questioned Trump's focus on domestic issues during an NBC News interview. She stated, "No one cares about the foreign countries. No one cares about the never-ending amount of foreign leaders coming to the White House every single week."
In response, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Greene had changed recently and that he was no longer a fan. He remarked, "Something happened to her over the last period of a month or two where she changed. I think politically, I think that her constituents aren't going to be happy."
Trump also defended his international engagements, saying, "But when she says, 'Don't go overseas.' If I didn't go overseas, we might be in a war right now with China."
Later that evening, Trump formally withdrew his endorsement of Greene, stating, "All I see 'Wacky' Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN." He added that conservative individuals in her district were considering a primary challenge against her.
Greene countered Trump's remarks, suggesting that his anger stemmed from her communication with him regarding the Epstein investigation. She claimed, "And of course he’s coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next week's vote to release the Epstein files."
She expressed disbelief at the situation, saying, "I never thought that fighting to release the Epstein files, defending women who were victims of rape, and fighting to expose the web of rich powerful elites would have caused this, but here we are."
As the feud continued, Trump, who spent Saturday morning golfing in Florida, labeled Greene a "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) and a "Fake politician." The ongoing conflict highlights the growing tensions within the Republican Party as members navigate their positions on key issues.
