Starting Saturday, e-bikes and e-scooters are banned from Toronto Transit Commission vehicles and property until April 15.

Anyone who brings an e-bike or e-scooter into TTC property during the ban will be "educated on the ban, and if they refuse to comply, they will be asked to leave the system," according to the TTC's website. Anyone who further refuses to comply could be arrested or fined.

The winter ban on lithium-ion-powered e-bikes and scooters was introduced last year following concerns about the increased fire risk due to the presence of salt and water.

Earlier this week, Toronto Police Service posted on social media about an explosion in an apartment near Carlton Street and Sherbourne Street, which appeared to be caused by an e-bike battery.
