A teen is turning heartbreak into hope. WDSU Reporter Shay O'Connor shared how this year's Miss Warren Easton is sharing the crown with her best friend she lost to gun violence nearly three years ago.

Sejal Muhammad, Miss Warren Easton said, "I'm like, I know I have to do this. Not just for me but for Kennedi. Because I know I am living for two."
And 90% of how you take it.
"So while being Miss Warren Easton, I also maintained playing two sports, having a job and keeping my grades up," said Muhammad.
For this year's Miss Warren Easton, Sejal Muhammad, that saying could not be truer.
She is a living example of turning pain into purpose and progress.
