CLAYTON, Mo. — Saturday is National Adoption Day. It kicks off the last Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Hundreds of thousands of children across the country are in foster care and waiting for their forever homes, but some of them found theirs on Saturday morning.

"(It's) amazing just to be able to say he's finally ours," said adoptive mother Mary Thomas.

Thomas is adopting 2-year-old Niko. He's one of 10 siblings. Thomas said she's fostered Niko since he was a baby holding onto life in the hospital.

"He's died on us twice just with RSV and not being healthy," Thomas said.

Mary's husband Paul Thomas are huge advocates for fostering and adopting.

"It's just not fair and (foster kids) need a good home and people to love them," Mary said.
