November 18, 1948 - On Nov. 18, 1948 what started with rain, turned into heavy wet snow.
The snow fell for three days, with one account from Wausa saying it measured 30 inches. Roads were blocked for months.
Dynamite was used in some places to blast away ice and snow. It took the U.S. Army to clear out 87,000 miles of road to free 152,000 stuck in the snow.
