SALT LAKE CITY — An explosion underground on Main Street caused power outages in parts of Salt Lake City Saturday.
The Salt Lake City Fire Department Capt. Chad Jefferson said about 30 firefighters responded to the explosion at 3:30 a.m. on 300 South and Main Street.
Crews lifted manhole covers and found fire coming from the electrical vaults.
The fires caused power outages in the area, affecting traffic lights, TRAX lines and nearby buildings.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said hazmat crews metered the area when gasses were found after the explosion.
Temporary traffic delays
The SLCPD said some roads were temporarily closed as the fire department worked. All road closures related to the explosion were reopened by 8 a.m.
Jefferson said the power outage will probably grow.
