Supercars champion Will Brown has his work cut out for him to secure a spot in the grand final after a fatal mistake at Sandown on Sunday.

A day after qualifying 15th before bouncing back to finish second in the race, the 27-year-old was left to rue his decision to pit under the assumption rain would continue to fall during qualifying.

Brown will start Sunday’s 250km race from 17th — putting him at risk of being knocked out of the title contention unless he can pull off another miracle.

Chaz Mostert is already locked into the grand final after winning Saturday’s race , while Broc Feeney will only need to avoid disaster on Sunday to progress.

Brown, Matt Payne, Kai Allen and Cam Waters are fighting for the last two spots with Thomas Randle a distant seventh.
