Assumption College senior girls basketball coach Steve Petrella could not be disappointed in his team on Saturday night, with good reason.
Despite coming up short in the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association championship game at home – losing 51-47 to Orangeville District Secondary School – the Lions showed their character, heart and hustle in almost overcoming a 23-point second-half deficit.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think you can be disappointed,” Petrella said. “I don’t know what team out there can be down 23 points and come back.
“There was time left and then we had two unlucky calls, two offensive fouls in a row.”
The Lions headed into the final as favourites after going 3-0 at CWOSSA, with pool wins of 81-27 against Laurel Heights and 69-52 against Orangevil
