WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new legislative effort aims to ease flood insurance costs for farmers. Congressmen Doug LaMalfa and John Garamendi have reintroduced the Flood Insurance for Farmers Act of 2025 to reform the National Flood Insurance Program.
Congressman LaMalfa states the bill seeks to alleviate financial burdens on farmers by allowing them to bundle multiple structures under a single NFIP policy. This change would mean paying only one $250 surcharge, instead of a $250 charge per building.
"Farmers shouldn’t be punished just because their operations happen to be near or in a floodplain," LaMalfa said. LaMalfa added that the bill addresses concerns about high premiums and unnecessary fees that hinder farmers from securing loans for expansion and repairs.
