After former President Joe Biden issued mass pardons to individuals convicted of marijuana possession, the U.S. Department of Justice has rescinded the leniency on marijuana charging guidelines, becoming stricter on those who are caught using it on all federal land, such as national parks, regardless of state laws.
In a press release , Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming Darin Smith said that he is "committed to using every prosecutorial tool available to hold offenders accountable.” Under federal law, marijuana remains a crime, and is classified as Schedule I in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), which means that the "manufacture, possession, and distribution are illegal except for the purposes of federally sanctioned research."
