GULFPORT/BILOXI — The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is underway for the holiday season, with red kettles posted outside busy stores across the Mississippi Gulf Coast through Christmas Eve.
The campaign has a $280,000 fundraising goal this year. The money goes directly toward food, shelter and year-round support programs for local families.
“The difference that is made by people donating is a huge impact. Sometimes it’s that month that people are just behind and they need something extra and this keeps them housed, it keeps them fed,” Maj. Paul Egan, Area Commander said. “It keeps them in a safe place and then other times the Salvation Army really makes a big impact in transitioning people from shelter to success.”
