MAYVILLE, N.D. – Firefighters from across Traill County converged on Mayville the night of Saturday, Nov. 15, to battle a grain elevator fire at O'Brien Seed, 42 1st Ave. N.E.
Tony Ernst, chief deputy with the Traill County Sheriff's Department, said a phone call came in alerting authorities about the blaze shortly after 7 p.m.
Homeowners living along Second Avenue Southeast east of the elevator were asked to monitor the fire but no evacuation orders were issued Saturday night, Ernst said.
“They're aware of the situation and were told to keep an eye on things,” Ernst said.
Ben Gates, assistant emergency manager for Traill County, said homeowners within an 8-block radius of O'Brien Seed were being asked to hose down their rooftops to prevent flareups from flying embers.
